The Record
Liner Essay
This collection began with a simple request from my children: “Record the songs we grew up hearing you play.” What started as a family archive became an exercise in translation—taking beloved classics and relocating them to new musical landscapes.
Each arrangement honors the original while asking: what if this song grew up somewhere else? What if Lynyrd Skynyrd met a New Orleans second line? What if this folk ballad found itself in a jazz trio?
The players on this record brought their whole selves—their histories, instincts, and generosity. These liner notes are a way to preserve that context and express gratitude.
